Script Hook V is the base tool upon which GTA V’s modding is set up. Developed by AB Software, it is the library that allows the use of GTA V script native functions in custom *.asi plugins. The latest version of this tool is free to download and also includes a basic Native trainer along with the latest ASI Loader.
You will need it if you’re looking to install GTA V mods like vehicles, graphic overhaul mods, weapons, map changes, LSPD First Response (LSPDFR), Lua plugin, etc. It is compatible with almost all versions of GTA V (1.0.335.2-1.0.2944.0) and receives regular updates with the game.
Note by Dev: It doesn’t work in GTA Online, script hook disables custom scripts when player goes in multiplayer to prevent the player from getting banned.
How to Download & Install Script Hook V
Here’s a short guide on the Script Hook V download and installation see the steps below:
Step 1: Scroll to the top of this page and click “Free Download“. Wait for the download to complete and move on to the next step.
Step 2: Copy ScriptHookV.dll and ASI loader (dinput8.dll) to the GTA V’s installation folder, i.e. where GTA5.exe is located.
Note: If you have a previous version of ASI loader installed, then go ahead and delete the dsound.dll file.
Step 3 (Optional): If you’re interested in installing the Native Trainer that is included with this tool then copy NativeTrainer.asi into the GTA 5’s installation folder.
How to Use Script Hook V & Native Trainer
There is no way to use this tool, after you are done installing it, you can now install all sorts of GTA V mods. However, some mods will still require “Community ScriptHookV.NET” (ScriptHookVDotNet).
However, you can use the Native Trainer in-game in single-player mode if you installed it.

ScriptHookV GTA 5 Not Working
The most common cause of crashes in GTA is the Critical Error. This error occurs when GTA V is newly updated and you’ve not updated the version of the scripting tool. The error displays “Unknown Game Version” and then crashes. To fix this try one of the solutions below.
